The new Late Night trailer is now online, ahead of its premiere in theaters with (most likely) the comedy Long Shot later this week. You can check it out in the space below.

In addition to featuring critic pull-quotes praising the film, the new Late Night trailer dives deeper into the plot than the first promo did. As it turns out, Molly’s not only a newcomer to the world of late-night television, but also writing for TV in general (having previously worked as a chemical plant efficiency expert). Meanwhile, Katherine’s spent so many years trying to survive by telling the same kind of jokes as her white male peers that she’s now seen as irrelevant and a woman who “hates” other women. The comedy around them has been compared to movies like The Devil Wears Prada and shows such as 30 Rock, but also explores intersectional feminism in a way that those projects didn’t. By the sound of it, Late Night is is at its best when it charts its own course, in this respect.

With a crew led by director Nisha Ganatra (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and a supporting cast that features Amy Ryan, John Lithgow, Ike Barinholtz, and Hugh Dancy, Late Night has a lot working in its favor. The marketing has similarly done a good job of presenting the film as a thoughtful and funny alternative to the big, splashy blockbusters arriving in June, like X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Men in Black: International. With a little luck, the comedy will continue to generate more buzz and find success as counter-programming as the summer movie season rolls along.
