The show opened up the world established by the Bradley Cooper movie, but is Limitless returning for another season? Limitless was one of a number of movies that made use of the popular myth human beings only use ten percent of their brains, and once they surpass that number they can unlock borderline magical abilities. Scarlett Johansson’s Lucy is another movie that featured this premise.

Limitless starred Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) as Eddie Morra, a down on his luck author who is given an experimental drug that makes him much smarter. This soon enables him to get rich and successful, but the dangerous side effects of the drug and the enemies he makes along the way soon threaten to destroy him. The success of the film solidified Cooper as a rising star and the movie had fun with the premise. The movie ended with a sequel hook with Morra running for Senate, but instead of a movie, a follow-up came in the form of a Limitless TV series on CBS.

The show is set four years after the movie, with Cooper returning as Morra but handing the lead role over to Jake McDorman’s Brian Finch. Finch takes the same drug and ends up helping the FBI solve crimes while receiving occasional guidance from Morra. The first season ended in 2016, but is there hope for Limitless season 2?

Limitless Was Canceled By CBS After Season One

Limitless was canceled shortly after its season finale in 2016. While the show debuted to strong ratings the numbers steadily dipped as the series progressed and CBS president Glenn Geller felt it hadn’t connected with viewers in a major way. While season one ended on a cliffhanger note, the network opted not to renew the show.

Limitless Season Two Was Shopped To Other Platforms

Limitless Season 2 Would Have Changed Up The Format

Limitless essentially took its literally mind-altering concept and turned it into a procedural, which arguably wasn’t the most creative direction to go in. Limitless season 2 would have seen the public aware of the NZT drug and Morra going missing, which would have changed the whole dynamic.

That said, the crux of Limitless season 2 apparently would have still involved Finch solving crimes, so it wouldn’t have been a major shakeup. Morra had also announced his candidacy for President, which no doubt would have been a major subplot. Unfortunately, with Netflix and other platforms having long since passed on it, season 2 looks very doubtful.
