Lisa Vanderpump wants her dog foundation to be her legacy. Sure, she’s one of the more recognizable figures from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and Vanderpump Rules, but it’s her love of animals that she considers the crown jewel of her achievements.

Vanderpump Dog Foundation was founded in 2016. The organization came to fruition after the reality star learned of a horrific Chinese event called the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. The gathering allows its patrons to sample various cuisines made from canine flesh. Vanderpump, who has rescued seven animals, enlisted the help of her husband and started her foundation to encourage humans to treat dogs in a much more humane way. One of her major achievements is appealing to Congress to pass the PACT act, which makes animal torture a federal crime. She has also spent a great deal of time advocating for a House resolution urging nations to prohibit trade in feline and canine meat. To date, the foundation has saved about 1,300 dogs.

Ever since Vanderpump lost her brother to suicide in 2018, she’s been especially focused on the things that matter in her life, according to People. “I’ve worked really hard,” says Vanderpump. “I just want to keep drawing attention to [the cause] and to rescue dogs. They are so grateful for a chance at a second life.” The reality star will throw her annual gala in Los Angeles on November 21. “Everything shifted in my brain,” says Vanderpump.  “All the things that I was involved with became more important. The foundation is of the utmost importance to me.”

Now that she’s no longer a regular cast member of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump will have even more time to devote to her passion project. Vanderpump walked away from the show last June, due in part to drama over co-star Dorit’s adoption of an animal from her foundation. The fallout was just too much for the entrepreneur and philanthropist to endure.

Lisa Vanderpump owns a successful collection of restaurants. She’s a glamorous television personality, and also works hard as a producer on her show, Vanderpump Rules. However, it’s noble of her to have aspirations that are selfless and in the service of others. That’s why her desire to have her work with animals live on as her legacy is admirable. Her dog foundation is something close to her heart. Vanderpump has been vocal about her devotion to animals ever since her first onscreen appearance with her beloved pet Jiggy. She may be a polarizing figure among her cast mates, but for her fans and other philanthropists, she’s an absolute role model.
